Dollies - Part 5

Didn't I say that I am always inspired by the 20s?

This is sort of like my modern take.

Just having fun.

Do-It-Yourself :- Accessories Display Tray

What happens when you have TOO many accessories for a lifetime? All lying around without a proper place to store them.

I am a sucker for accessories, especially rings, bangles, bracelets. ESPECIALLY rings!

So I figured I should get something practical to keep them organized. I actually saw this idea at Forever 21 one day while out shopping.

What you need :-
A tiered cupcake display tray (got mine from Ikea)
Fancy paper doilies (I didn't have one at hand so I found printed serviette napkins in the kitchen cupboard!)
Paper scissors

The tiered cupcake tray came in seperate pieces, which you have to assemble yourself.
What I did was I cut up one piece of serviette napkin into 3 pieces. If you have beautiful paper doilies, use 3 pieces. And basically I use these to line each tray.

Of course you are welcome to not use anything to line the tray. I just thought I'd 'beautify' the whole experience.

Make sure you cut a small hole in the middle which would enable you to screw the poles in place

And now you can place all your accessories on each tray.
I use the top section for all my rings, and the bottom two trays for bangles, chunky necklaces and my vintage  metal-links belt.

Sweetie decided she wanted in on the photo session too. Obviously she loved my display!

I even used a Bickford's Sarsaparilla bottle for my watches....and the side of my mirror frame for my necklaces! Talk about recycling.

Go forth and create. XOXO

Interview Magazine - December 2012

Leave it to the original Supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss to work it for the cover of December issue of Interview.

Uh-mazing!

Dollies - Part 4

In my previous post, I mentioned that I am always inspired by the 20s.

I love how the dresses fall. How soft the silhouettes are. I believe that amidst a time of war, the women of that era still managed to look good. I believe that such an attitude should apply to today's ladies.

This is one of my many interpretations of a modern 20s look.

Wanting, needing, waiting.

I have been dreaming of wearing this wonderful piece of jewelry.

The Apparition Ring by Mania Mania.

I love the art nouveau etchings on the side of the ring, and the fact that the ring itself is huge.
It almost looks magical.

One day, it will come to me.

After all, I called out to the Immortals Ring and it finally came.

Dollies - Part 3

If someone asked me which era of fashion I am most inspired by, I would have to name two eras :- The roaring 20s and the swinging 60s.

I absolutely love the 60s because it was a time when women had so much more freedom and fun than they ever had. Fashion was no longer restricted to one look. Skirts and dresses were shorter. Women were allowed to experiment with colours and shapes.

This was my little tribute to 60s DIY. An era when women all around the world took the time to make their own clothes based on designs and patterns that were available in fashion magazines of the time.

Dollies - Part 2

My 2nd effort at using Adobe Photoshop to colour my own illustration.

This particular collection was loosely inspired by flower petals. I love how petals on flowers give them a three-dimensional feel, all the layers beautifully arranged on top of one another in a circular motion. I also wanted to use the gentleness of a flower to soften up a collection of garments that are structured and 'masculine-esque'.

Dollies - Part 1

I love illustrating fashion. I find it so therapeutic.
I can sit for hours and hours just drawing fashion illustrations, imagining what it would be like for these to come to life.

This is my first attempt at using Adobe Photoshop to colour my illustrations. Not perfect of course, as it's my first time. But I'm pretty proud of my efforts. And most of all, I had fun.

I wish I can work as a fashion illustrator. Would definitely be a dream come true if that happened.
Alas, where I live, such artforms are rarely appreciated.

A girl can dream......

Bonjour!

Welcome to my little blog.
A place where fashion, creations and music meet.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did sharing them with you.
